In one of our previous articles, we discussed the importance of colorectal cancer prevention and screening.
But once your test has been completed and sent to the laboratory, what happens next? Here are the different steps following the analysis of your screening test.
BIONEXT’s role in screening
As part of the Organized Colorectal Cancer Screening Program (PDOCCR) in Luxembourg, BIONEXT is involved at several stages of the process to ensure the quality and reliability of analyses.
In practical terms, our role is to:
- ensure the availability of screening tests through our laboratories
- perform analyses in compliance with strict quality standards
- guarantee reliable and secure results
- contribute to improved access to screening for the population.
During this awareness month, it is also important for us to explain the steps that follow your fecal immunochemical test (FIT).
Once the analysis has been completed
After your colorectal cancer screening test is sent, the sample is analyzed in the laboratory to ensure a reliable and secure result delivered under the best conditions.
Once the analysis is completed, your results are sent to you as well as to your doctor. This step ensures appropriate medical follow-up and allows further examinations if necessary.
How do you receive your results?
After the analysis, the results of the screening test are communicated to the patient as well as to the doctor. This transmission ensures proper follow-up and quick care if needed.
Negative result: what does it mean?
A negative result means that no abnormality was detected during the analysis of the test.
In this case, the program provides regular monitoring: a new screening kit is sent to your home every 2 years. This renewal ensures effective long-term monitoring.
Positive result: what are the next steps?
A positive result does not necessarily mean cancer is present. However, it indicates that further investigations are required.
In this case, a medical consultation and a colonoscopy may be recommended to carry out additional examinations and guide care if necessary.
Good to know
A positive test does not mean cancer. However, it means that additional investigations are necessary to understand the cause of the result and check for any abnormality.
Colorectal cancer screening makes it possible to act before symptoms appear and improves the chances of early detection.
Why screening remains essential
Colorectal cancer screening is a simple and essential preventive action. When detected early, colorectal cancer can be cured in 9 out of 10 cases. Participating in the program means taking action for your health.
