Artist Jacques Schneider shares his vision of Esch-sur-Alzette, a town that holds special meaning for him. His family settled there a century ago to work in the steel industry.
In his work, the town hall building symbolises the unity of the different communities that have come together in this place.
The Town Hall
The Town Hall of Esch-sur-Alzette, as it stands today, was inaugurated in 1937. It is one of the town's historical landmarks, as the public square where it is located was built in the 19th century, a period of industrial growth. Interestingly, at the time, Esch was nicknamed the ‘Iron Metropolis’.
This was because it attracted a large workforce to mine iron ore.
