In Luxembourg, colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers, and the risk of developing it increases with age. Screening every two years is an effective way to detect colorectal cancer at an early stage. When caught early, treatment can lead to remission in 9 out of 10 cases.
To participate in the Organized Colorectal Cancer Screening Program (PDOCCR), simply perform a fecal occult blood test.
The Health Directorate is launching a new phase of its screening program, conducted jointly with the National Health Fund (CNS).
The reference laboratory for the PDOCCR is the BIONEXT laboratory.

Colorectal cancer
This cancer develops progressively from small benign growths called polyps. These polyps can degenerate into malignant tumours if they are not detected and treated in time.
Managed by the Health Department's Centre de coordination des programmes de dépistage des cancers, the PDOCCR enables early diagnosis of colorectal cancer, which often initially develops without any noticeable symptoms or signs. As a result, colorectal cancer is sometimes diagnosed late, requiring extensive treatment.
Organisation of screening
A two-stage strategy: a stool occult blood test, followed by a colonoscopy if the test is positive.
Who can benefit?
A Simple and Quick Test
The FIT (Fecal Immunochemical Test) is a simple examination that analyzes a stool sample to detect the presence of blood invisible to the naked eye, which may indicate the presence of polyps or colon cancer.
It is recommended every 2 years for women and men aged 45 to 74 who have no symptoms or history of colorectal issues.
